Paola Gehrig, MD

Dr. Paola Gehrig is the Norman Thornton, Jr, Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia.  Dr. Gehrig went to the University of Florida, Gainesville, for both her undergraduate and medical school training and she subsequently completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia. Upon the completion of her Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at UNC, she stayed there where she rose through the ranks and was awarded full professor with tenure, became Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Medical Director of the North Carolina Women’s Hospital. In 2022, she moved back to Virginia in her current role and she has served as the interim ACMO for peri-operative services since January 2025. She has authored or co-authored over 170 peer-reviewed articles. She has been on Board of Directors for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, served on the Gynecologic Oncology Division for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is currently an Associate Editor for Gynecologic Oncology and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Women’s Cancer.
